Our Story

How it all began

We met in September 2017 at Western University, finding ourselves in the same section (shoutout Section 5) at Ivey Business School. Hunter sat in the row behind Mary, who faithfully shared her snacks with him, despite his ongoing complaints about the carrot-to-everything-else ratio. Our differences became apparent early: Hunter had never set foot in Western Canada, and Mary had only ever seen Toronto from downtown. But the similarities outweighed all of it — namely, a mutual love of Twitter, skiing, buffalo chicken fingers, and dogs. With winter approaching, when Hunter discovered Mary had a car, our fate was sealed. We started dating on November 5th, 2017, and haven't looked back since.

Over the next eight and a half years, we lived in Toronto, Calgary, Washington DC, back to Toronto, and back to Calgary again. Hunter finally made it out West, where Mary learned he was nearly as good a skier as he'd always claimed. We loved introducing friends to Western hospitality, both in ski season and, of course, during Stampede. Back in Ontario, the legendary 106 Scarborough Road and many a dinner and late night at 74 Wineva gave us just as many good memories. We travelled coast to coast, from Victoria to PEI, with a special place in our hearts reserved for road trips in our beloved red Ford Escape, Ruby. With so many people we love in London, England we made the most of European summers with Mary always finding a hike to test Hunter on and Hunter successfully converting Mary to Guinness. Somewhere in between, there were Ontario cottages, small West Coast towns, Maritime family reunions, visitors in DC, and ski hills from interior BC to Colorado to Tahoe. Thank you for being a part of our lives, and we can't wait to celebrate our next chapter with all of you.

Book through the hotel links to get the group rate — and if you'd like to make a longer weekend of it, you can adjust the number of nights when you book.

Flying In

For those traveling in from outside of Calgary, Calgary International Airport (YYC) is the airport to fly in to. We'd suggest flying in on the Friday, given the oligopolistic nature of our airline industry and the resulting market failure that so reliably disrupts travel plans.

The wedding is in Inglewood, and there are lots of Airbnb options in the neighbourhood and the surrounding areas for anyone who'd prefer that to a hotel.

Getting around Calgary

The ceremony and the reception are within walking distance of each other, so we'd suggest walking, Ubering, or taking transit to the ceremony, and then walking over to the reception from there.

If you'd rather drive, there are two options:

  1. Park at The Lantern for the ceremony, then drive over to The Nash parking lot in the hour between the ceremony and the reception. We have the Lantern lot until 5:00 pm.
  2. Park at The Nash before the ceremony and leave your car there until you head home. Note that we don't have explicit permission to use the Nash lot until 5:00 pm.

More generally, Calgary is a walkable city with plenty of Uber, Lyft, taxi, and public transit options for getting around over the weekend. We wouldn't recommend that out-of-towners rent a car unless you're planning on visiting the mountains or other trips beyond the wedding.

The Nash

“In 1907 the historic National Hotel opened in the Inglewood neighbourhood of Calgary. The National Hotel originally served transient railroad workers, local cattlemen, and travellers near the Canadian Pacific Railway yards. Renowned chef Michael Noble and interior designer Sarah Ward restored the vacant landmark. They reopened the ground floor in November 2014 as The Nash restaurant alongside its sister lounge, the prohibition-styled Off Cut Bar.”

When and where is the wedding?

Saturday, May 22, 2027 in Calgary. The ceremony is at The Lantern Community Church, 1401 10 Ave SE, and the reception is at The Nash, 925 11 St SE. Both are in Inglewood.

When do I need to RSVP by?

December 1, 2026.

Can I bring a plus one?

Both venues have guest caps, so everyone invited is named on the invitation. As much as we’d love to celebrate with everyone, we’re only able to host the guests named on yours.

There are two of us on the invitation — do we RSVP together?

Please RSVP separately. Each person named on the invitation should fill in the form individually.

How do I let you know about dietary requirements?

There’s a field on the RSVP form — tell us there and we’ll pass it along to the venue.

What time should I arrive?

Doors open at 1:30 pm. Please find a seat before 2:15, when the ceremony begins.

What’s the dress code?

Semi-formal.

What’s the schedule for the day?

Guest arrival from 1:30, ceremony 2:15 to 4:00, an hour to make your way over, cocktails at 5:00, dinner and speeches at 6:00, then the band and dancing from 9:00.

What happens between the ceremony and the reception?

There’s an hour, from 4:00 to 5:00, to move cars, take photos and make your way over. If you’d rather not wait until cocktail hour, Cold Garden Brewery is about five minutes away.

Is there an open bar?

Yes.

What time does the evening end?

The Nash is ours until late.

How do I get from the ceremony to the reception?

They’re within walking distance of each other. We’d suggest walking, Ubering or taking transit to the ceremony, then walking over to the reception.

Do I need to rent a car?
